Social value in our supply chain
Integrating Social Value in our supply chain is an integral part of our Net Positive strategy.
Collaborating with like-minded supply chain partners drives a positive effect far greater than acting alone. Earlier this week we came together with some of our supply chain partners to take part in an interactive workshop called 'Pyro-off'.
We saw a full day of teamwork and collaboration focused on our works at the Manchester Town Hall project, learning about Mineral Insulated Copper Cable (MICC). The teams gained an insight in to how MICC is manufactured, how it meets standards and design requirements and how stringent quality assurance and control processes are within those standards.
We focused on MICC, as almost 15,000 metres of it is being installed on the project and as it's the only cable that does not use plastics or polymers to protect circuit integrity, using it has an equivalent saving of ¾ million plastic bags going to landfill. There are other net positive benefits to using this type of cable - it can operate in temperatures over 1000c without producing toxic gases or dense smoke suggesting there's zero combustible materials, zero halogens and zero plastic resulting in zero waste sent to landfill.
Great job from all the participants, it was a fantastic and enjoyable day that provoked positive discussions, with everyone taking away new knowledge and new connections.
